Robert F. Smith – Chairman 

Robert founded Vista Equity Partners in 2000 and is the firm’s Chairman and CEO. Robert currently sits on or participates in the boards of all Vista portfolio companies. He is Chairman of the investment committee and is actively involved in Vista’s direction, investment decisions, executive development and operational strategies.

Prior to founding Vista, Robert was the Co-Head of the Enterprise Systems and Storage sector for Goldman, Sachs & Co.’s investment banking division. While at Goldman, he executed and advised on merger and acquisition activity across a broad range of technology segments, including semiconductors, contract manufacturing, data networking, computer systems, B2B and enterprise software, and internet infrastructure. Robert also served as the business unit manager for Goldman’s Mergers and Acquisitions group, and was responsible for conflict clearance, team staffing, recruiting, marketing strategy, and fee schedule integrity.

Before his time with Goldman, Robert worked in strategic planning and development at Kraft General Foods (KGF). He is the principal inventor on two United States and two European patents.  Robert holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and an M.B.A. degree from Columbia University, where he graduated with Beta Gamma Sigma honors and earned numerous academic achievement awards. In addition to numerous academic and civic awards, Robert received the 2010 Ripple of Hope Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.

Vincent L. Burkett – Director 

Vince joined Vista Equity Partners in 2011. He sits on the investment committee and is on the boards of Aptean, Misys, Mitratech and SumTotal.

Prior to joining Vista, he was the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ventyx, (formerly a Vista Portfolio Company) which is a leading business solutions provider offering software, data and advisory services.  Under his leadership, Ventyx grew into the largest and most successful independently owned software company for Energy and Utility Companies through an aggressive acquisition and integration strategy along with an intensive program for organic growth and operational improvement culminating in a strategic acquisition of Ventyx by Zurich,CH based ABB.

Prior to Ventyx, he was a Managing Director at Alvarez and Marsal Business Consulting and Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SourceNet Solutions (formerly a Vista Portfolio Company), a provider of comprehensive business process outsourcing solutions for finance and accounting operations.

Notable to Vince’s career is his focus on talent and executive development.  This commitment has resulted in 10 former managers and executives of Ventyx and SourceNet now in leadership roles at other Vista Portfolio Companies.


Vince graduated with a BBA in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude) from Texas A&M University.

Alan Cline – Director

Alan originally joined Vista Equity Partners in 2001.  He rejoined Vista in 2008.  Alan sits on the boards of Accruent, Bullhorn, MicroEdge, Mitratech and Relias Learning.

Prior to rejoining Vista, Alan was a General Partner at Accretive LLC, an innovative venture capital firm focused on high growth technology-enabled service companies.  Before his time with Accretive, he spent five years at Vista Equity Partners, and was involved in the sale of SRC Software to Business Objects.

Alan also previously co-founded and served as General Manager of Fandango and worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in the Mergers & Acquisitions and High Technology Groups.

Patrick Severson – Director  

Patrick joined Vista Equity Partners in 2013.  Prior to joining Vista, Patrick was a Partner at Warburg Pincus where he spent 12 years investing in and working with software companies at all stages from start up to buyout.  Before Warburg Pincus, Patrick was a consultant with Booz-Allen & Hamilton and Price Waterhouse, where he focused on media and technology industries.
